The product
A complex mix of volunteers – – respected local postcard collector, renowned artist / graphic guru, publishing expert and several other reviewers, researchers and checkers — took great pains to contribute to an elegant and accessible personal description of life and the built environment in Hadleigh and surrounding areas as seen through postcards of the era. We have already had very positive responses from people who have bought the book and like the quality of both the contents and the book itself.
Impressive plates
In Hadleigh Postcard Memories, many local people see places they know well; even where some specific buildings no longer exist. Each postcard both reflects a choice by the photographer of the day with a contemporary frame of reference and also enables people of current times to explore their roots from a viewpoint that is necessarily radically different from that of the people depicted.
Proof of concept
The pictures show the book in four of the stages of the printing process performed in another country, one where a majority of young adults are unemployed. Whether our gesture of spreading out this no doubt relatively small job may have helped their economy in some minor way, we will never know. { Other parts of the All Our Stories project have benefited the home economy already! }
